The Sweet Briar Tennis team advanced to the conference semifinals after their quarterfinal victory over the Maroons of Roanoke College. The match was played to decision, the first team earning five points takes the match.
The Vixens swept the doubles 3-0 which gave them momentum into singles play. They needed only two singles points to take the win. The doubles teams for the Vixens were Ariel (Holness) Taylor-Moriah Burke at first doubles, winning 8-2. At second doubles were Krista Maldonado-Jessica Bronner with a winning score of 8-3. The third doubles court was won by first-year players Grace Caskey-Andra Brumfield, 8-6.
Singles action in order were first-year Ariel Taylor (Springfield, Va.), Moriah Burke ('13/Rockville, Md.), Krista Maldonado ('12/Ennis, Texas), Ansley Smith ('13/High Point, N.C.), Jessica Bronner ('14/Haynesville, Va.), and Sarah Manter ('13/Brunswick, Maine).
Smith came off court four singles with a straight set win 6-0,6-0. Ariel Taylor took the fifth and match clenching first court with a dominating score of 6-1,6-0 over Roanoke's Laura Dodson. Jessica Bronner also completed her match at the fifth court position with a win in straight sets. The Vixens will travel to Lexington, Va. to play their semifinal match against the nationally ranked (#8) Generals of Washington & Lee. Match time to be determined.
